Monstrous Regiment cast of characters

Note: Each character name below is a link to a longer entry, which can and usually does contain spoilers.

Characters specifically Monstrous Regiment

Polly (Oliver/Ozzer) Perks
Polly was a barmaid and de facto manager of her father's inn until she decided to don male clothing and go fetch her brother back from the war.

Sergeant Jackrum
A legendary sergeant, Jackrum's been everywhere, met everyone, and probably got into a fight with everyone's brother, too. Now he's in charge of Borogravia's very last recruits.

Wazzer Goom
A very nervous young recruit who joined the army because the Duchess told him to.

Carborundum
A troll recruit. Very trollish in appearance, right down to the lichen.

Maladict
A vampire who's sworn off blood and now prefers coffee, Maladict joined the army presumably for fun. When you live forever you like a new challenge to sink your teeth into. Figuratively, of course.

Igor
A young Igor seeking job opportunities in the battlefield. Wars tend to provide plenty of opportunities to practice the art of the surgeon.

Shufti Manickle
A gullible young recruit who can cook a four-star meal out of the barest supplies, and so also the natural quartermaster.

Tonker Halter
A young red-headed recruit, disillusioned with the government, quick to grab a blade, and fiercely protective of Lofty.

Lofty Tewt
A quiet young recruit with a liking for fire. Lofty will mostly only talk to Tonker. The others prefer not to ask too many questions about the two.

Lieutanent Blouse
Blouse used to be a clerk, but was promoted with some speed, as the army was running out of officers.

General Froc
The leader of Borogravia's army. The youngest person ever to make captain, and once danced with the Duchess herself.

Appeared in previous Discworld novels

Commander Samuel Vimes
Duke of Ankh and Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. In Borogravia now as a representative of the interests of Ankh-Morpork in the Alliance's war efforts in Borogravia.

Sergeant Angua
A sergeant of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch and an unofficial number three in Watch hierarchy. Also a werewolf.

Buggy Swires
A gnome and a watchman, six inches high and about ten times as belligerent and nasty as a grown man. Also comprises the Watch's aerial squad.

Reg Shoe
An Ankh-Morpork City Watch officer. Also a zombie, and an undead rights activist.

William de Worde
The editor of the Ankh-Morpork Times, Discworld's first newspaper.

Otto Chriek
The Times's lead photographer and another reformed vampire.

Gods and other supernatural presences

Death
The End of All Things.

Duchess Annagovia
Borogravia's official ruler. No-one's seen her in decades, and during the events of Monstrous Regiment she would be 97 were she alive. Nuggan is the only official god in Borogravia, but The Duchess is the head of Borogravia's church, and the people have begun to pray to the Duchess instead of Nuggan. At first the prayers asked her to deliver messages to Nuggan, but later the people began to worship her as if she were a deity herself.

Nuggan
The official god of Borogravia. Unfortunately Nuggan no longer has true believers, so he has become nothing but a whisper. His echo still inscribes abominations into the Book of Nuggan, a living testament that updates itself. Since Nuggan's demise, the abominations have only become wilder and more impossible.
