Jackrum, Jack. A legendary Borogravian army sergeant-major, hefty for an obese person and a devil in a fight, with a big shouty voice and a red face.
     At some point in time, Jackrum was a girl, but hasn't been that for so long that the difference might as well not be there. He - and I use the pronoun in deference to social vs. biological gender - once had a son, William, whom he gave away to be raised in Scritz.
     Jackrum spent decades in the army and got to know just about everybody and go just about everywhere. Little favours done over the years added up, and little secrets revealed gave him just that extra bit of edge, which helped him to stay in the army despite several attempts to retire him honourably.
     Jackrum decided to retire at last after Alice Goom brought short-lived peace to Borogravia, and passed the mantle of a legend - in the form of names and dates - on to Polly Perks.
